In
March of 1991, Community Access, Inc. was
established. We are strongly committed to improving services
for individuals with mental retardation in Texas. Beyond
simply providing care, our goal has been to assist people
with developmental disabilities in reaching their highest
level of physical, intellectual, behavioral and vocational
functioning. Over the past decade, Community Access has
grown from one ICF/MR group home to more than 30 ICF/MR
and HCS facilities across the state of Texas. With regional
offices located in West Texas, North Texas, East Texas
and the Dallas/Fort Worth area, Community Access offers
an outstanding array of program options for individuals
with developmental disabilities in a community near you.
An inter-disciplinary style of management
and a team-approach to services have established a sound
record of performance in a complicated regulatory environment.
Our objective is to develop ways to meet changing, often
complex state, local and federal standards for our industry
while maintaining the primary focus of consumer care. The
personal and social well being of our customers is central,
and outstanding quality of service is achieved with a "person-centered" planning
process. Residents and their families are involved at all
levels in determining treatment strategies, life goals
and training objectives. In 2000, we received the Irwin
Siegel Commitment to Quality Award, given annually to a
Texas private provider who demonstrates outstanding commitment
to quality improvement and advocacy on behalf of persons
with developmental disabilities.
An integral component of our mission is
helping create new and expanded opportunities for individuals
to participate fully in community life. Not only do we
devote extensive effort to providing the finest quality
home environment for those we serve, but we also invest
in community efforts to promote greater inclusion of persons
with developmental disabilities. Community Access invests
heavily in advocacy groups like the ARC, Special Olympics
and participates in leadership organizations such as Texas
Association on Mental Retardation, Southwest Society of
Service Coordinators, Private Providers Association of
Texas, ANCHOR and the National Association of Qualified
Mental Retardation Professionals. Our management staff
and employees take a leadership role in local efforts to
increase the availability of accessible community recreation
and leisure activities, transportation, financial and health
resources for persons with disabilities.
Community Access has been certified and
licensed since 1991 as an ICF/MR provider and has also
been certified as an HCS provider since 1993. We currently
serve more than 185 clients in our ICF/MR and HCS programs.
Throughout that time, Community Access has worked closely
with local MHMR Centers, Goodwill lndustries/OIT, The ARC
and Community Workforce of Texas to provide our consumers
with employment, job training and day habilitation services.
Community Access prefers to work with other providers and
agencies to avoid duplication of services and to extend
the capacity of the company to meet the needs of persons
with disabilities. For the past 14 years, Community Access
has successfully met the needs of the individuals served
by utilizing community partnerships and individualized
internal solutions.
